almost completed peeps, the island newest speedball training facility in nanaimo b.c. at central island paintball. - it's an arduous task with site planning, excavating, fill, surface prep, topsoil/sanding and then finally seeding. there's been a bit of a delay with things as the hot weather will just simply turn grass seed into dust. (this recent rain has helped).
official grand opening of the 'still to be named' field will be spring 2011. we will be starting off the season with something cool (guest team/skills day/event) or something to that effect - so keep posted!
(currently, the cage in duncan is the only proper speedball field on the island), however with v.p.a. speedball opening spring 2011 and this new 1 in nanaimo opening as well, we are hoping to see some good growth in the sport. central island paintball's speedball field will offer full 7-player team size, running water, turfed playing surface, sup'air bunkers, 4500 psi fills, spectator seating plus all the other amenities already in place; 2 bushball fields, a turfed 3-man all-weather speedball field, chrony range, washroom, sheltered staging and a full-blown pro-shop - all on site!
for the 2011 season, central island paintball, the vancouver island paintball club and paintballevents.ca will be offering new and existing island teams (who use the new nanaimo speedball field) significant savings and team sponsorships. interested teams/players can contact us 4 more info.

is your new speedball field going to be that flat area where everyone entered at the last island united? or is it going to be at the bottom of the hill on that road?

the 7-player field will be the one at the bottom. (where we had all the sup'air bunkers set up for island united 2). i'll be lushing it up over the off-season so its nice turf by spring.

Just curious... what makes a speedball field "proper?"
The reason I ask, is because since the one up at Point Blank has been up & running, I've always considered it "proper," but then again I know about as much Swahili as I do speedball. Are they supposed to be a specific size or something? Point Blank's speedball field seems too small for 7 on 7...

good question.
i guess:
water to wash bunkers
turf to slide on
30-40 sup'air bunkers
a compressor
netting
pooper
parking on site
legally zoned for paintball
a good fresh supply of different paintballs
regular competition
that's prolly a semi-complete list (but i'm sure i'm missing stuff)
the cage is 150'x200' all level turf (sizing)
