Anyone know a place to find hardwood cut ends mid to lower Island? I'm just looking for some smaller chunks about 3/4" thick and about 4-8" square or so. Looking for chunks of Cherry, Walnut, Oak or anyother similar types.
Any suggestions?
I'm wanting to make a set of grips for my Sheridans (Ok, probably a couples sets as I have 4 Sheridans now, might do some 45's as well).
I've been practicing in Pine/Spruce (cheap and plentiful, but obviously soft) lately but I think I've got the hang of it now so I'm looking for the good/better woods to make more of these. We have (had?) furniture place in Duncan I beleive, but they are all pine from what I remember.

PJ White Hardwoods in Victoria might be able to help you out.

Sorry, Dave ... I actually wanna make my own, just like I did the ones I posted above .... but I'm hoping to find some cherry, walnut or some quilted maple if possible this time. I just have no clue where to look.
I'm actually having fun carving my own grips ... sorta stress releiving, and nets a bit of a sense of accomplishment.

Just thought I'd offer them up as they are just sitting collecting dust. I know you are a DIY kinda baller though...

sheee it, i have an endless supply of all them hardwoods. tell me which ones you prefer and i'll give em to you free. also, trracver detentes are super easy to make - all they are is a small spring about the size of a ballpoint pen spring. it fits into the groove in the lower breech.

Tom! you are awesomeness incarnate! If you got bits of cherry and maple and walnut I'll take those, I'm leaning towards the cherry and maple really. Methinks I need to road trip to Nanaimo!
