Just got an email from Island Timbers again today

QUOTE
Hi Tomm,

Hope you are enjoying this summer weather!

I wanted to touch base with you to inquire if you had progressed any further with your group forming a non-profit organization to operate a paintball venue?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Denise

Looks like they are still willing to work with us on the Hump site.

I wonder if we have enough local boys & gals interested in pursuing this, if it is even possible. If so we should really set up a get together soon.

I think the first thing is to find out how much that insurance that they want would cost. Does anyone know where to start with sourcing and pricing that?

Once we've got a number to deal with we'll be able to start figuring out how/if we're going to be able to generate it. Also whether it would be specific to that site or some sort of membership situation where individual members are covered (not sure if individual coverage is what the land owners are looking for though, but having the numbers and the option we might be able to pitch it to them if it's not already on the table as an option). Any ideas on where to start on sourcing this sort of thing?

actually we CANNOT play there. paintballers have been banned by the land owners and will be charged with trespassing if they go and play there. thats the whole point of this topic my fine sir.

It also looked like they put up a no trespassing sign up when I drove out of town the other day.

THere is a SPorts Insurance company on the mainland that covers every sport. It is a non profit group I believe put together for just this sort of thing. I have to look up there name again.

Well I sent out and inquiry for liability insurance to http://www.allsportinsurance.com/ out of Vancouver. I asked them to estimate one site insurance for the hump and for a Island wide orginization that would cover any and all sanctioned practices, games and Tourneys. At all locations were members are playing.

To do this we would need to form a organization for non-profit. We would need to meet the min requirements for officers. Then need to figure out how to obtain funding, through members fees, fundraising, tag days (we qualify as a non-profit), business sponsorships, etc.

It is doable, the bike clubs and other groups can do it so can we. We just need support and quality work from a small group of people willing to be officers. Then support from the island Paintball Community to become members.

Fields like the Hump which are covered by this group would have to be run like a rifle range. Members play free as much as they want and non-members would need to pay 2-5 bucks to pay for their insurance coverage. That would be enforced by members that are currently playing at the time they are there. Which those logistics can be figured out at another time.

The goal would of course need to keep the renegade / outlaw paintball feel alive and not cost a stupid amount for membership. We could do voting and non-voting memberships which would provide cheaper membership fees for those just into playing and nothing else. Many things to think about and discuss and it is doable if we are willing to wade through the BS and just Get'R Done!

The benefits could be huge. A formal organization to sponsor, groom and develop leagues on the island. Provide insurance for teams practicing and traveling to tourneys. Ability to fundraise and apply for tag days in every community. Become more visible and attract more younger players and families.

Whos In?

Thanks Matt, just sent them an email and we will see where it takes us. I have also sent out to two other companies last week and have heard nothing. People really hate paintball insurance.
