Only adding known mature honest paintball loving Outlaw players that aren't narc's or forest company spys that like to rape ballers in the butt and suck the essence of fun out of thier lives in Port Alberni.
It's sad that a thread on this forum fawked over Hump Day 2 and the site that's been in use for so long.
I would hate so see another faagggot scum narc spy ruin anything new you all create or start to formulate on this board in any thread that's open to thier eyes.

At the moment I've only got the one section set up for those Outlaw fields but have been contemplating how best to manage letting people in to a controlled Outlaw section without kind of defeating the purpose of getting new players and groups not familiar to us already in contact with the regulars around here. The only thing I can think of so far is referalls for access to a private Outlaw section... but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea.

A similar mechanism would be useful for the IPB forums, a private forum regulated either manually (by admin approval) or automatically (by post count or a reputation system). Using this system, combined with a locked forum would allow newbies - like me, for example - to build up a certain level of trust before being allowed to access information concerning outlaw fields and events. IPB would then have an opportunity to control that information, to prevent last-minute disasters like with Hump from happening again.

i like new
the issue with outlaw fields is legality. let's face it, if someone tresspasses (against the owner's consent) then when some1 gets injured or killed or maimed or whatever, and they intend on seeking restitution, then a whack of people get thrown onto the list: organizers, players, property owners, lessee's etc. - and it gets sorted out in court..
all the parties retain a lawyer and then all parties get cash sucked out of their lives. it's already happening, so yeah. if this forum supports or condones or facilitates or assists in this (well, i guess you'd have to call it an illegal act), then perhaps the island paintball forum would be liable too? we kinda gotta b careful with this outlaw stuff.....
if there is a chance that we can work a deal with timberwest or the ministry of forests we'd b crazy not to go that route. we could get a club or whatever registered and manage it. the hump in island united's hands. how sweet would THAT be?
personally, i dig outlaw, but it's a touchy issue - a frikkin can of worms actually -

We have an experience (at least posting experience) gauge around here but "ranks" don't really suit this forum
If all the planning happens behind closed doors where only those in the know can see it, how do the new folks get in? Right now a few games have been organized on the level of "A bunch of us are going out to play in THIS GENERAL AREA PM for details if you want to join us". And for the moment I think that kind of inclusive broadcasting with discretion is probably the best means to connect with new players while keeping your secret stomping grounds reasonably unknown to others...
If a particular group wants to set up a private section with a password, as some of the teams have done, for organizing their games that is always their perogative and I know that WarParty makes good use of their section. However, overall MY personal goal with this site is the growth and continued inclusivity of our island paintball community... Speedball, Pump, Rec, Scenario, Outlaw, etc... I'm fond of the "Island United" rallying cry and would rather not see it devolve into the "Island United, except for those guys and him and him and her and that bunch over there and..." so I'm leary of cordoning off a section and removing that kind of involvement and interaction with the rest of the community from general visibility (citing the DMZ may be done at your own peril).
As it turns out, I think this (the Hump Site situation) is actually a blessing in disguise for our community as it gives us a chance to publicly show ourselves as a responsible body, respectful of property and dealing with the proper channels in a mature fashion. Sadly our sport is often incorrectly perceived as being played by rowdy hooligans trespassing into peoples back yards and making a mess. Admittedly there are the occasional individuals who own markers and use them without regard for other peoples safety or property, either by willful trespassing or outright vandalism, but calling them Paintball Players is like calling rioters armed with baseball bats a Baseball team so I welcome the opportunity to stand out as a respectful responsible community in a situation which seems to have some public interest.

Absolutely understandable. Basically, the whole point of raising my suggestion was to get an idea out there. I noticed when I first started frequenting this forum that things were done here differently than at the OG's, and there's probably a reason for that. I'm cool with this.
The key word in this paragraph is DISCRETION. I'm still wondering how Island Timberlands managed to find out about the Hump Game. I have my sincerest doubts that Denise (the woman who warned the event planners away from the site) has ever actually been to the site. Heck, I've been playing paintball for 15 years, and I'VE never gotten to see Port Alberni, so you can imagine I'm somewhat suspicious that someone under delusions of acting as a 'pillar of civilized society' whispered something in her ear. However, the only hint I could find of anyone advertising off the IPB forums was one of Tom's ads for the game on Alberni.ca's own message boards, and I didn't see any alarm bells on that one.
Oh yeah, I'm definitely a huge fan of the Island United rally, enough so that I'm proud to fly that banner in my videos. It is not in my intention to encourage anything that might compromise that solidarity. As a Hellfire Hopeful myself, even an IPB newbie like myself can see the merit of private team forums for communicating information about outlaw games privately. There's no question that the organized teams within Island United have the most to lose when things like Hump happen.
Again, the only reason I made this suggestion was to keep people who DON'T consider themselves under that banner, from trying to take it from us entirely. Which brings me to my next point.
First, I will agree with you that the way we handled Hump with Island Timberlands was great. Yes, the event almost ended up getting cancelled, but Tom had an excellent opportunity to step in and host the event at his field instead. The game itself was saved, and the way in which IPB kept lines of communication open with Timberlands promises the possibility of using the site again. Finally, we showed the company that we're not the uncultured vandals and miscreants they're so afraid of.
That being said, however... there are only two kinds of people as far as the discussion goes. The kind of people who want to play paintball, and the kind of people who want to take it away. I have spent the last few years desperately searching for that imaginary middle ground, but it just doesn't seem to exist. Realistically speaking, paintball is one of those sports that just seems to polarize a community into its secular extremes.
It could be because they imagine all kinds of ridiculous liability issues, or that paintball promotes violence (like video games do?), or that someone's son came home with a few bruises. "Oh my god! What if that had been your eye?!" The exact argument doesn't matter - we've heard them all. A few kids get drunk, roll around downtown lighting up homeless people and cyclists with a Canadian Tire special - oh, yeah, we're the ones that get hurt from that the most. A paintball marker is used to tag passing cars from a backyard, eventually causing an accident? The media says "That's you guys." ... and the parents believe it.
It doesn't matter that paintball is safer than even the most organized sports in the world, that you're statistically more liable to suffer serious injury on a golf course. We're not the ones who get the chance to explain our position. If it wasn't for insurance companies who understand the predicament and saw an opportunity to make a few bucks, we would ALL be playing outlaw.
Is this a fine, upstanding community - full of respectful, honorable people all flying together for the sake of trading paint? After playing Hump II and at Midway with a lot of you, I have absolutely no doubt of it. Almost everyone I've had the pleasure of speaking with since I've joined have struck me as nothing less than mature, dependable and honest - which makes me feel absolute rotten that I even have to suggest such a silly idea as a private forum.
Generally speaking, I can trust you. It's everyone else I'm worried about.
