Quick feedback:
Always keen to see a new scenario game launch! Awesome.
The date is not so great for some Islanders... we have a local Scenario game running out of Midway Paintball set for August 15th. I think that many Islanders will be focused on this event, and as cash is tight for many you might not be able to draw many of us off of our rock for a Saturday event to. Some might go over and do both... but I suspect that many will be staying home and hitting the Midway game.
From my perspective a Saturday night campout and night game would be better (but not on the weekend of the 14th-15th). Might be tuff to make the run to the ferry after work on Friday night.... I have played one night game-day scenario set up before but it was at Panther. It was simply so much fun!! A real blast!!! I'd do it again if I could. The night game was sponsored by TactMark (now MIlSIG). We used the mag fed carbines. Super fun. One on one in the town complex with crazy spot lights casting some very disorienting shadows made my night! I'd be interested in playing another one at your event!

Hey Blackheart, I think you could probably get a reasonable island turnout for it normally but unfortunately the timing conflicts with the Island based Scenario happening at Midway August 15th. I enjoyed playign with you guys at the last TPG game and would love a chance to come check out your field, but I'm afraid that weekend won't be it for me... Being able to camp out and not having to cough up for a Hotel definately does make a big difference cost wise though.

Best thing to do is to check the Calendar we've got on the site, we try to keep it up dated with the Island and Lower Mainland events so it's usually pretty accurate as far as what we know to be going on in the area. You can get an idea of what's going on and what other events you might be competing with for player attendance.

A great idea that Dave from Point Blank put on one year, involved a "downed pilot" scenario, among other things. He tried explaining it to me, and it's basically this: Each team is divided into divisions which all have separate starting locations. Nobody has a clue as to what they're in for until the horn blows, signalling the start of the game, when each division opens an envelope containing their division's objective or mission. In the case of the downed pilot rescue mission, the division only had a backpack to open. Inside the backpack was a radio, with the downed pilot hollering through it, requesting rescue & describing his location etc... The opposing division's objective was to either simply kill the pilot, or take him hostage or whatever... you get the idea.
The other divisions' missions? Well, the topic kinda ended, so use your imagination. I think having 3 divisions per team, each with their own objectives which somehow interact with one another would make for a very interesting scenario game. Dave said his worked very well... First time lucky, maybe? Oh... I forgot to mention, he strung ropes from the graveyard to the teams' bases for ressurection purposes. Every 15 or 20 minutes, there would be a "helicopter drop" where the dead guys all grab the rope & walk back out to base to ressurect.

It really depends on the flavour you want to set. TPG generally puts on a very intense front line heavy fighting "hold the line/push the line" experience which is adrenaline and gun fire from start to end. Midways scenario last year was a mix of front line engagement, flanking maneuvers and recon patrol skirmishes which made for a in interesting day of shifting to adjust and counter the other teams current approach making for a very tactical day from my perspective. One of my most memorable scenarios was Panthers Gangs in the Streets though, it was a 6 way (may have been 5 way) scenario with each team having to both defend their base and assault opposing bases to collect and capture flags. The Gangs scenario made for a really intense experience because the assault teams would move in packs and you'd be in the middle of a firefight with one team and get hit from the side by another team or be just about to take an enemy base when you get rolled over from behind by another team. It made for a very dynamic game and made coordination and watching your back far more vital than any other scenario I've been to since. With so many teams and bases spread out across the field there were some problems with getting respawns out smoothly but it was otherwise an exceptional game with some great skirmishes!
One thing I would strongly recommend though is a field map! At least with basic layout and clearly marked station locations as I've had SOOO many cases where I've been out trying to find a flag station at a new field and spend 15-20 minutes wandering around trying to figure out where I am and if I've over shot the objective *laugh* Not necessarily for every player, but a few posted in the staging area(s) and maybe a laminated one posted in each teams base?
I think the layout of your field will influence the way the scenario plays significantly. TPG is visibly very open and highly developed which lends itself well to the leapfrogging line battles, pushing up a row of bunkers at a time with coordination and aggression being more likely to get you an angle than stealth. At Midway the stations were HUGELY spread out compared to the number of players on the field so you had to break up to cover more ground and with a little thicker bush it actually was possible to sneak through enemy lines sometimes to take unguarded objectives or shoot entire squads out from behind. Also the respawn model and size of the field will affect how the game plays out, perpetual respawns will inspire more bold play and greater risks while delayed or interval respawns will cause people to play more conservatively since getting nailed means you're potentially sitting for a while.
I'd personally suggest keeping the first one reasonably simple and focus on making the field layout and objectives balanced and see how the first one plays out and then adjust future games accordingly. If you can come up with 2 or 3 special missions for each side through out the day and a reasonable scoring system that work into the theme of your game that would give you a pretty solid core to the game. Things like special weapons rules (such as airstrikes) or special units (like being able to 'air drop' a squad somewhere on the field) are neat but not really necessary to still having a solid and really fun game.

Not every event on the calendar is going to be a major draw to island players, we try to keep it complete though so everyone knows what's available. There is so much going on this season that it's going to be almost impossible to entirely avoid conflicts but if you can avoid overlap with TPG, BCPPL, and R4tG events the odds of us being able to get a reasonable Islander turn out is much better.

Hey Shadow.....talked to some guys from Vancouver and we are thinking of doing an Island tourney this summer...hopefully we can get about 20 guys. Would be great to come shoot people in your neck of the woods. Aside from the 15th...are there any big tourneys up your way after mid august??

There was some chatter about Midway possibly doing 2 Scenarios this year but that's the only other Island based big game I've heard talk about so far and no date announced on that yet. That doesn't mean there won't be others but those are the only ones I've caught wind of so far.
Alternately if you guys play Pump at all I would highly recommend hitting the West Coast Pump Weekend at TNT (July 31st - Aug 1st). It's not a scenario day but it's THE best pump play you'll get in the area all year and the regulars are some of the best, most fun and laid back players in the region. There is usually camping on site for the out of town players with details posted in the calendar and TNT's section of the forum.

sounds like a good venue but unfortunatley you scheduled your event the same time as ninjas vs spartans at midway paintball in duncan b.c. on aug 15th. im kinda thinking most the islanders will stay home for the local game.(I know Hellfire will.) sounds like you avatar game will be cool though, have fun.

Let me know what you think and if late October is good for you guys?? We really wanna have you all out to test our new field out. Nothing like an Islander Invasion to close out the season.
