May Long Hump Game preperations

I can commit some building materials (scrap wood, screws, nails rope, ty wraps in limited supply) hand tools (ax, shovels, pick axe, hammers of various types, come along) and battery power tools. Know of some illegal dump sites I could scavage from as well.
anyway, anyone interested? I'm probably gonna head up on my own at various times but wanted to coordinate if others interested. Chainsaw in particular would be of huge benefit, possibly firewood donations?

If a bunch of volunteers from Nanaimo could carpool up, I would be willing to donate a day (or even two) to come up with them and help prepare the site.
I've got plenty of time and energy, come with some of my own supplies, and it would be a great chance to get to know the lay of the field. The only thing
stopping me from going there right now is the fact that I don't have transportation of my own.

This weekend would be the best opportunity we have to prepare the site for May Long - as opposed to "Hey, here's a brilliant idea - let's wait until we have sixty to a hundred players impatiently waiting at the gate before we undertake this project."
- If you haven't volunteered yet, today could be your last day to do so. If you want in, sound off with your names and locations.
- If you HAVE volunteered, you should be trying to coordinate with the other volunteers to get to the site.
- Who -ARE- the other volunteers, anyway? Has anyone gotten a head count yet?
Myself, I've already spent the week packing up my 'field construction kit' and getting it all strapped together for a weekend job. I've got shovels, sandbags, hatchets, nails/screws, camo netting, spray paint, a power drill, water and enough stimulants to keep the crew chopping, digging, and whistling for a week. If there was a bus to Port Alberni, I'd be waiting at the stop right now.
Unfortunately, though, even the best-prepared volunteer is useless if he's stuck in the next town.
Let's get some dialog happening, folks! What do you need, where do you need it, how are we gonna get it there, and when?

That goes for anyone comming may long. Feel free to bring field material donations. We can store materials just off to the side of the safe zone. Not asking for anyone to put out $$ but if you got all the wood from that old fence you tore out last fall.... reduce reuse recycle right? or.... if its dry.... bon fire bishes!!

Beers, Bonfires, Bush Ballin over a long weekend.
Dad got rid of his old fence material - so I'll be filling the back of the truck with all my camping gear - etc.
Need anything Tom?
I'll have extra room in the back of the truck if you need me to stop by to load up some shiz for ya.

Wish I didn't need to be so pessimistic - it doesn't come naturally, I assure you! - but I've seen it happen before. Not just paintball, but camping, biking, you name it.
All the same, I agree with you that one volunteer (no matter how spirited and well-prepared) is not worth the two round trips between Po'Alberni and Nanaimo it would take to get him to the job site and back.

May Long it would be REALLY good if somebody was to bring a chain saw. Theres a few trees that need clearing and ppl would be able to drive in further to the old field for parking and camping. If memory serves theres 3 trees down across the road. I might be able to do something this week but I got a lot around the house that needs doing before I go back to work after may long.
Good news, the whole field has dried out a fair bit. The swamp is still a couple feet deep at the centre but the ground isn't soaked anymore. Likewise the road puddles are just mud pits now... I looked at drainage channels.. not much to be done really. Maybe next year can look at taking several yards of gravel up there?! But really, if my mini van with trailer on can get in and out np... everyone else should be fine.
So I got a few hours of work done... then a group of 10? thirteen year olds w/ parents showed up for a paint ball birthday party lol. The dad was impressed that I was up there solo working, so he let me jump in on a few games using the gear he'd rented, his air and his paint. all rental gear, but still, nice way to end off the day. P'wning 12 - 14 year olds. Although I must say, the dads idea of 8 vs 2 was ill advised, especially with all 8 of the kids on defence and us attacking.
Um, we really need to spread the word as well, that what you brining in to the hump, you take out from the hump. There was a amazing amount of trash (paint bags, cases, pop/beer cans etc) up there. Its a free place to play but that also means nobody is getting payed to clean up after us.

No mater what group there are those that just get it done... the ones that dive in and work... it is par for the course. No point in lamenting this fact. It is the way of human group dynamics. Some embrace the work ethic. Others just like to watch while scratching the jock and smoking blunts.... stupid hippies.

Hopefully if we can come up with a plan we can didicate time over the long weekend to get some stuff done. Is anyone coming out friday night to set up there camps? I would like to try to get sites marked off for tents and try to leave the road open for anyone brining in trailers and for Tom's van and truck with the air and paint.
