Seeing as I plan on purchasing an Ion, I figure I should know the basics. My main question is Dwell, how does one decided what to set their Dwell at?

The Ion comes with a stock dwell of 54 which is quite ridankulous.

what you will end up doing is lowering it until you cant get a good velocity out of it then go up a few blips...

QEV and bolt will help with lowering dwell down to ~12

Exactly - if stock, leave it on the stock settings regaurdless of what you read anywhere.
With some good QEVs lower it to taste otherwise don't mess with it's chi.

I tinkered with a couple Ions and was able to adjust them to get almost 1200-1500 shots from a 68/45 with minor upgrades.

k so keep it at stock dwell, set the velocity to 300, then bring the dwell down till I drop below say 200fps, leave it then bring my velocity back up with the velocity ajustment?

If it aint broke don't "fix" it.

Just know a couple new QEVs opens up some tuning options for you.
But for the most part just leave her alone.

QEV = Quick Exhaust Valve

They have been around for a long time pneumatic tools and air ride suspension systems but in paintball they have been on Cockers back before Speedball became a hard-on in anyones pants.

Off topic, but "Dwell" is also a killer modernist housing magazine. Highly recommended!
