I am looking into a speed-ball gun. I found an Ion for 150 or something, it looks really clean no major damage Iam aware of, and Iam wondering basically is this a decent gun for a noob or is it not Even worth it to bother, it just seemed a lil cheassy being a plastic body and all. Are there any things I should be aware of about an Ion or any speedball gun for that mater.

thanks Darius

150 for an ion seems good. the ion was my 1st electro gat and it works well. just keep the batteries topped up and you should be fine....

My general recommendation would be don't bother upgrading an Ion... they're ok as an entry level marker but if you try to upgrade it to perform like a higher end speedball marker you'll spend more doing it than you would have just buying the other marker outright... When you're ready to upgrade go to the higher end marker and keep the Ion as a backup if you can afford it. My opinion anyways...

Pimping out a Ion is like pimping out a Chevy Chevette - it'll be cool but it'll still be seen as a Chevette - even if it can do a ¼ mile under 12 seconds and the only thing 'Chevette' about it is the shell.

If you want to make it into a $1000 Ion do it because you want to regaurdless if you can buy a used Ego 10 for the same money.
However shooting a stock Ion will be just fine as you figure out the game and how you want to play it.

When it comes to buying gear I always say that you don't win the stanley cup with a ten dollar wooden hockey stick but if your goal is to only have fun on weekends in a rented school gym then ten dollar sticks are easily good enough and leaves you more money for beer.

Welcome to the Forum and deffinatly buy that Ion at that price - it's a great deal

Cool. The ION is a good starter gun. Slightly more difficult to work on then other higher end markers but pretty decent marker IMO. Heck, many people would sell the bushball guns and run with the ION in the woods to. Killer woods ball marker. If you enter tournement play I think you will find yourself wanting to upgrade (or so it has been with everyone I know who plays tournements... new marker new marker... I need a new marker... again... and again... LOL).

Do not run the Ion on CO2.
Yes it'll work but as soon as some liquid gets into the gun it'll stop shooting.
I've seen it happen a few times with people that tried it out.
Air is the better choice no matter what gun you're using.

yeah seeing as it cant do much more then what 20bps, its no worse then a e-trigger on an a5, so i could use it for woodsball i guess. As for the air i plan on finding a tank that i can use for both my 98 and this ion if i get it, i been wanting to switch over to air for a while now any ways.

So with that this said i think for 150 iam going to get it on monday hopefuly

pwnty, i JUST purchased an ION from this really weird guy "joshua" on the forums, and it is awesome! I've found it's a really nice marker, i haven't had any technical problems with it yet and hope i won't have any in the future, i recommend getting one for an entry to speedball, it's a pretty decent marker.

I'll guess mashed the button too hard and broke a board or two in the process.
I'll also guess difficulties with the stock banjo fittings and snapped em inside the bolt sleeve.
I'll also guess pulling the batt power leads off of the board thus needing a resolder.
I'll also guess trying to change stock or tadao board settings by counting the blinks and screwing up in the process by accident.
I'll also guess loosing a frame screw and using one a bit too big on the breech or one that has a metal bur on the breech screw causing paint to break with each shot.

But those are just guesses. Not that I've ever seen any or ALL of those easy fix issues. rolleyes.gif

also all easily avoidable issues...i have an Ion, i love it. i upgraded mine to look pretty inside and out, and am very happy with the out come.... Highly recommend it, and make sure to read up on what not to do to it as to not get any of the already mentioned problems
