With all the chatter about 'Island United' I thought it would be appropriate to shed some light on what it is for those new to it. In thinking about how best to explain it I realized that it made more sense to give you a bit of the background on where it came from and how it has evolved as it is an evolving entity not something I can slap a static definition on.

Back in 2007 Camoking started 'Island Militia', a bush / scenario team that played mostly out of TNT paintball in Victoria but did regular trips to Victoria Paintball Adventures, Midway Paintball and rolled out for Scenario games at Tswassen Paintball Games and Panther Paintball as well. IM got a reputation for being a fun, helpful, honorable and hard playing crew and made connections pretty much everywhere we played. We were rallying increasing numbers of players for the TPG scenarios and a rivalry with the mainlands CSPO contingent gave the island players a common goal. As the number of people coming out to scenarios grew and the Islanders organized themselves to play together against the CSPO it got unweildy to refer to all of the different groups of players coming out seperately "Island Militia, Hellfire, Untouchables, Supernaturals, TNT regulars, etc...." and at some point a rallying cry of "Island United" became the name for a community of players that surpassed team boundaries and styles of play.

Island United has continued to grow and has evolved into a collection of Speed Ball, Bush Ball, Scenario, and Pump players interested in developing the Islands paintball community, elevating our level of play, and playing hard but honorable paintball. Oh, and kicking mainlander butt around the field at scenarios and tournaments.

Island United is not a team in the typical sense, it's a community or movement of Island based paintballers who share a general interest in growing the Island paintball community and the sport of paintball.

Warparty is a team. It was only on the badge as an example. basically "put your team name here" so for you it would say "Alberni Assasins"

On the graphic patch mock up "WarParty" was used as an example. Beyond that WarParty is a speedball team that plays out of the Cage. WarParty formed January 2009 and played the BCPPL (winning Event 2 and two thirds and a forth place finish in the other events). This year WarParty has bumped up to Div3 for BCPPL. To date for 2010 WarParty has played the first two F4tGuns events placing 3rd and 1st. We practice at the Cage almost every Saturday. If you are interested pm me... we likely can fit you in for practices (fun times) but I like to know in advance who is coming as we run our practices as closed affairs... no drop ins unless invited.

Heheh, I probably shouldn't do posts like that at 4 in the morning as things don't always get explained as clearly as they might when I'm fully conscious... There is no official roster for Island United, we're a community of players not a team and you include yourself by participation. WarParty is a speedball team (see SouthParks post above for WP details) and, like Island Militia and Hellfire, one of a handful of teams that identifies as part of the Island United.

Island United... the term came to be almost two years ago... We (a hoard of Island Ballers) had just smashed at a TPG big game... and we were retelling the stories of the day and were other wise sitting around BSing.. and... this frame of reference and term "Island United" popped up. I think I had just finished watching a Manchester United Game the night before... and... it all just fit together... Kinda cool. Since then it has grown. It is a rally call. Islanders United to play, promote and grow the Island paintball scene.

Warparty is a recycled team name out of MidWay - Didn't Duckie and them run with that name before? - I miss him.
Todays Warparty is a different roster of a great bunch of guys too that have done really well.
Snagging a BCPPL - MVP trophie (Dave) earns huge player cred in my books.

Having a Island United battle cry is much needed. We used to scream out "Island. Love." because we shared the 'love' aka pain and sometimes is seemed gay because were sappose to sound tough or something while shouting 'love'.

Yep. Robin and Eric Chang and a bunch of other ballers ran with WarParty... There have been a bunch of different WPs over the years includiung a bushball team that I think Joshua (HellFire) ran with ... we chose the name as a nod to those past crews. Initially we played at and out of Midway... sponsored by Midway... Love MidWay still... but the Cage has the bunkers, the HPA and the H20 for washing the bunkers down (MIdway's well runs pretty shallow in the summer... no H20... no cleaning bunkers = dead icky leaky bunkers). Kept the name but now do speedball out of the Cage.

Yeah dave your right. I actually founded and was Captain of the first Island Warparty back in like 96. We were an ALL native bushball team for about a year until i moved away and the team kinda dispersed. from what i know,Robin started up a speedball team not long after that sporting the name Warparty and i heard they did pretty well. Then i think it started to die off again until Dave picked it back up and the rest is history in the making. Im always happy to see the name Warparty still kicken around and the warparty boys are definatley doin the name justice. keep on rockin Warparty.

As for the "Island United".....well.......You ALL rock!!! We rock as the Island United and woe to any who stand in our way!!!!

we r all laying claim to the term it seems. kinda like the arctic sovereignty thing. 1 thing for sure tho' it's all of ours and it's a term, not a team.

The battle cry.... so far it seems to just be "ISLAND" wen we are rolling thru the bush. Sometimes the response is "UNITED" (like "Marco" and "Polo"). It is pretty nice to yell out "Island" and get it back a bunch of times so you KNOW the Island Crew is around covering yer 6.
