Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this topic (as some blog sites are pretty particular), however I will let'r rip and see what comes of it.

I'm a 24 year old recently graduating from Ryerson University here in Toronto and am ready to be done with this god forsaken place. As of August 1st my girl and I will be out of here and to the island, which through much research proves to be Canada's best-kept secret, and as it turns out, a place that embraces one of my favourite sports, paintball. We are hoping to find a place in the Nanaimo area so that we are relatively central, and so we are Close to VIU. With that said, when I do arrive I will be a complete stranger (part of the plan biggrin.gif ) but lets face it, no-one wants to paintball alone.

Soooooo, for me this is my first attempt to reach out and get some first-hand knowledge of what exists out there, the best places to play, and hopefully a good scenario team that is willing to accept another player. I have researched the fields that are available out there and am excited to see that the standard that is upheld by my favourite field, Wasaga Beach paintball here in in Ontario, is enthusiastically embraced by the people out there.

I have been playing for about 6 or 7 years and am relatively experienced, so I'm no rookie, for what its worth. At bare minimum I will be attending the Tippmann event in Tsawwassen in October and am looking forward to any responses I get from my "fellow" players

Thanks smile.gif

There is a few places close to you that you can show off your mad skills. there is a couple in nanaimo there, theres a big field in duncan, we have one here in alberni, comox/courtenay has a couple, campbell river has a small field, theres a few in victoria. so you have many many options. keep your eyes on the event calendar and the game talk section.

welcome to the Island. hope to see you on the field.

Hey BK, welcome to the forum. If you're planning on playing the Tippmann Challenge in Oct you came to the right place. The island usually rolls out to the Tswassen scenarios in force and, with the exception of the most recent game, seem to have become one of the larger groups at the Tswassen scenarios lately.

There's alot of players up and down the island, hopefully you'll get a chance to meet more than a few on the field fairly soon. Hellfire is the Scenario crew I'm most familiar with in that area and they are a big part of the Island United crew that rolled out to the Tippmann Challenge the past 2 seasons now. I'm sure Josh and some of the other Hellfire crew will check in and give you the Nanaimo based welcome wagon soon. While I'm not sure if Hellfire is recruiting you're always welcome to roll out to scenarios as part of the Island United crew.

Welcome to the forums Beerkanuck.
sooooo you wanna join the island united do ya? you sure you got what it takes? Do you have balls of titanium? Do you piss napalm and fart mustard gas? Because if you dont we will eat you alive!!!

Ha ha j/k man. but we islanders actually truly are pretty aggressive. the only time you will see us retreating is if we are chasing a stragler which got through our lines.(which doesnt happen often) Dont get me wrong here we are not some strict militant group that will "demote" you or anything. we just love to play ball and we also love to win and it shows in Our Island Win Battle record. oh and a few of us may be a little psychotic at times.......*cough cough Tom cough cough* smile.gif

AS for joining Team Hellfire? I am captain of Hellfire and we are recruiting.
I am looking for people who can show up to practice and scenario events on a REGULAR basis. Im frankly sick of recruiting people and then only seeing them like twice a year. Potential teammates for Hellfire also have to have Honor and a drive to better themselves and the paintball community. And by honor i mean by not cheating or bonus balling people intentionally etc. etc. I HATE cheaters!! If a memeber of Hellfire is ever caught intentionally cheating they are done. but anyways im rambling now.

When you get to the island look me up here on forums and we will bring you up to our homefield "MIDWAY" in duncan. All of Hellfire are based out of nanaimo so give me a shout when your on the island.

Yeah, I think the title of "Foaming Paintball Berserkers" falls mostly on certain members of the IM crew... who probably don't need to be named at this particular time and place *laugh*

*cough* Two cases with a pump gun *cough*

Will for sure let you know when I arrive then so you can judge for yourself my paintball skillz....lol....always think of Napoleon Dynamite with that word. I would have to say that I have 1 buddy here who plays paintball with me WELL, and everyone else is a wuss. Seriously, the amount of time I "request" cover fire, just to have no one covering me at all is frustrating. With that said, it is a big reason I want to join some form of a team, pretty tired of being lone wolf and trying to command respect.

As for coming out often, I will definitely be down for looooots of paintball, HOWEVER, I will need employment first before I start spending the rest of whatever money I have left from moving on my recreational life wink.gif. Currently, here where I am now (very few downtown fields that I like) we drive 2 hours to Wasaga Beach every 3 weeks to play, and its always me who is trying to rally up a few buddies to go.

It is also promising o see though that you guys have some pretty awesome paint rates around there. In Ontario it isn't unusual for a case to be $200, which is totally insane. It actually makes me foam at the mouth a bit.................... ha

Do you guys have some sort of sweet patch too? A team called HELLFIRE must have something bad-<swear filter> stitched across their <swear filter>.

2 cases through a pump gun! epic.

Should I be worried about limited Tippmann Challenge acceptance numbers or can I just wait and get a ticket in August? Not sure how organized people are around there......the Wasaga "big game" event every year brings in around 1500 - 2000 guys/girls but numbers aren't limited so I've never really had that problem.

in nanaimo:

central island paintball

field (250)756-6793
store (coming june 20th)

we have been nanaimo's premirer paintball location for games, equipment, teams, tournaments since 1986!

our team, the b.c. supernaturals is the island largest, longest-running competition paintball team. rookie, novice and am. 2 time canadian national champions, past provincial champions (b.c. and alberta) all am.

when you get here, give me a call and we can show you what we have going. the supernat's home field is the cage in duncan - the island's only tournament speedball facility.

hope this helps! (in spite of the fact there are multiple teams here - we are ALL island united).

Don't sweat the cap, our games are smaller here in part because we just don't have the kind of population density that Toronto and the surrounding area does. That and TPG is practical and doesn't want to over stuff the field... with 400 at TPG it's busy but playable but there's also very few if any players turned away at 400 as well.

Matt always lets us know when the tickets go on sale so that we can get in and do the advanced purchases, for the Tippmann Challenge game which is usually mid October they tend to go on sale in September if I recall correctly so there's no rush.

I think I recall seeing a thread with drafts of a Island United Patch in the works. The drafts were looking pretty sweet.

Dave- I cheat with my avatars, for the most part I find or make video clips that I then manipulate each frame in Ps or FCX.
I typically get creative when bored or still up at 0300.

What?

Nobody mentioned Point Blank Paintball in Comox? It's only the cheapest commercial field on the planet--- Oh and better deals on stuff than you'll ever find at Badland's... And turnouts of 25 players on a slow day... and don't forget the bakery, pizza and burgers, kareoke... yes kareoke... Don't all bakeries have kareoke and paintball?
Oh right- you guys are all southern islanders... you wouldn't know how great we got it up here laugh.gif .

BeerKanuck, if it's life in the great outdoors that's lured you to Vancouver Island... I mean if you're coming for the camping, fishing, hiking, mountaineering, snowboarding, kayaking, or whatever, then I'm sure you'd prefer to live well north of Nanaimo. Life in Campbell River, or the Comox Valley is much better suited for the outdoors enthusiasts, as all those kinds of activities will be just down the road. Just north of Campbell River, the island is pretty much empty- just a spattering of villages along the highway, but thousands of kilometers of logging roads providing access to all kinds of awesome freshwater fishing and camping. Campbell River is also the gateway to Strathcona Park, which offers the awesomest hiking & backpacking anywhere.

If you plan to make lots of trips to Vancouver however, then there's really no better spot to be than Nanaimo. What else is good about Nanaimo? I don't know... more stores? Central Island Paintball?

Haha, fraid I know very little about Point Blank other than the fact that it exists. There have been occasional "Hey, is Point Blank still around?" threads that pop up here but little contact from them or the regulars there sadly... IM had plans to make a weekend run up and check out the Point Blank field last summer but if I recall a combination of wives and timing squashed that at the last minute.

PointBlank actually has a facebook page that has pics and comments. I play there every weekend except during the times it was closed for xmas-newyears and during my knee op and recoup. Different kind of paintball in the sense that games are anywhere from 15minutes up to 40 depends on the people mix newbs, regulars. Also resurection in most games that way noobs and aggressive types can get back into the game and try again and again.....

Here's a question, is there a market for Badlands to open a store on Vancouver Island do you think, or is it a small community and already well established by the current offerings?

I may be starting to work there and I know they are looking to expand greatly in the next year and was going to consider helping them with that venture when i move out there. I've always been personally driven and figure its worth dropping the idea to the real consumers on the island.

As a consumer I would love to see a store front that is dedicated to only paintball here on VanIsle.

Fifth... I like the last version...

Agreed.

My understanding is Badlands didn't want to take over the Bastion store/stores when they were for sale a while ago.
That decision may not have only been based on their lack of desire to have a Island presence - who knows - ask em if you can open a Island based storefront for them fresh and new - they might love the idea.

A number of different people have tried a couple of different store fronts each on the Island - they aren't around anymore - but two or three of them could have online stores soon.

As a consumer I'm just as hapy to point click and buy from a local store as I am to walk into one.

I think so... Should do alright in Victoria I'd imagine. As Southpark already implied, vendors are kinda scarce.... I bought 99% of my gear online.

Why do all the new threads lately all seem to transform into an Island United patch thread? rolleyes.gif
