Nobody? SERIOUSLY?

Am I to understand that with the Challenge only about four months away, nobody has spoken up yet to represent Island United?

Bollocks! Sir, I answer the call and throw my beret into the ring - Wingnut English is officially competing for the War Correspondent position at the Tippmann Challenge! At Midway Paintball on the 20th and at Operation Colombia on July 11th, I'm going to be recording footage for my entry. Anyone who wants to help, or even just appear in the footage just show up at those two events in your finest gear. I will need players to help with mock interviews, stage "drama" shots, and to generally play for the camera.

I have a lot of ideas to put into film, and not much time in my days to do it - so please apply only if you're a team player and are willing to do what you can to help. While I also have pretty decent art and design skills, I may also require the assistance of someone who is fluent in Flash or something to create mock news-channel animations (or at the very least, access to stock animations of such variety).

For examples of my prior paintball-related work, see the footage from Hump Day II and the Midway Retreat. If you already appeared in one of these videos, don't worry - I may end up recycling some of the best footage for this contest too!

Very good Wingnut, I know Montreal will love to have your entry. Try to get it in mid to late July if you can.

A small hiccup in the plans. While I will claw out the eyes of any poor sod between me and Operation: Colombia, June 20th's casual game at Midway is off for me. mad.gif

My security company has just secured a contract in Victoria for five days, and while I begged and pleaded to get Sunday off, it's not going to happen. I get all five days, or I get none of them.
Since I don't wanna be looking after convenience stores for the rest of my life, I have to opt for work over play - sorry, guys, but that's not the end of the world.

In addition to recycling some footage, I will still be at Operation Colombia, come Heck or high water. Whether you decide to roll as DEA agent or as a cartel soldier, DRESS UP!
Not only is TPG offering a "best costume" prize at this event, but I will be hand-picking some of my own favorites for publicity photos and parts in some awesome video.

And just as suddenly, I've been knocked completely out of the running.

I retrieved the camera for a few pictures tonight, and from somewhere inside water dribbled out! And I've not the damnedest idea where it came from! Closer examination shows condensation in the LCD screen, and it won't respond when I try to turn it on. This is my only camera - it's not much of a machine to depend on, but now that it's gone I've got nothing. It is unlikely that I can afford a replacement in time for the event, and given the high-risk application, it seems unlikely anyone will loan me theirs.

Sorry, gentlemen, it looks like I'm pretty much sunk now. I hope this won't reflect as a bad omen on the rest of my plans for Colombia. unsure.gif

You guys ROCK! Thanks for stepping up. Southpark, I will be in and out of Victoria for five days (including today), but it'll be very difficult for us to hook up - Bear Mountain in Langford, from 1800 to 0600 may be a little bit of a stretch for you, but I have a sister in town you could probably meet up with - she works at an Insta-Loan cash store downtown. Lemme see if I can make the arrangements, or lemme know if you have a better idea.

Tom, it may be easier for us to hook up, especially if you can make it into downtown Nanaimo at some point during the day. I plan on meeting Whiskey Steve for the ticket buy-in, Monday morning at 0900 at the bus exchange (Operators NEVER sleep, hehe). If this works for you, let me know, otherwise same goes for you.

Guys, please let me know what model of cameras they are so I can do some research and figure out which one better suits my needs. I'm indebted to you both! happy.gif

Haven't been able to keep you guys up to date, but great news! My brother and I split the cost on a new Samsung ST-60 - a budget pocket shooter on sale through Future Shop, but still a significant improvement over the Canon Powershot A550 I was using before. In addition, I've also built a "Steadicam" stabilizer for those difficult fly-cam shots through the field, and had the opportunity to get it broken in during a game between Hellfire and the Regulators at Midway Paintball yesterday. Whiskey, Chief, Domino, and many of the other field regulars had the chance to draw first blood off this cutting-edge equipment.*

* (Not counting the clean nick I got from the galvanized pipe threads. Hoo, boy, that bled for a while.)

While my filming yesterday was cut short by a dead battery, the camera and its stabilizer performed every bit as expected. I'm back in the game; filming will resume at Operation Colombia, so DRESS THE PART no matter what your side. I'm going to need volunteer actors for plenty of "stage shots."

As the project goes on and on, it's becoming apparent that trying to fit all the sheer AWESOME of the event within Tippmann Challenge's pitiful 50-meg size limit is not going to work - either it's going to require leaving all the greatest shots on the cutting room floor, or the reduction of the video's resolution to the size of a postage stamp.

The reasons I've entered the contest in the first place are no longer in play (I've got all the paintball markers I want, plus being part of a team means I now have other responsibilities), so I've decided to place Team Hellfire, Island United, and the guests of Tsawwassen Paintball on the top of my priority list for now.

You guys are going to get the video first with a full serving of AWESOME. Tippmann can wait for theirs, and if I end up missing the contest as a result, that's fine.
I've got everything I ever wanted, so there's no reason for me to compromise this production to bow to their knee. laugh.gif

Heh, I've only had a chance to do a rough cut of the first of 4 tapes from Sunday and I'm looking at roughly 30 minutes of good game footage and even if I trim that down to just highlights taken out of context I'm going to have to squeeze to get that into a single YouTube upload. I'm currently working on cutting up the first tape into a "Morning with Blue Team" and "Morning with Red Team" video, but will have to hack about 5-6 minutes out of my rough cut on each of those still to get them down to YouTubes 10 minutes per vid mark.

why not just make multiple youtube videos rather than cutting them down? like colombia part 1, part, part 16 etc.

I intend to at some point but it would be ALOT of footage, I'd rather get a couple of higher density vids out first. Also may wind up doing a Hellfire special, and an Untouchables special, and a 604 Maffia special, and maybe a Fail and Cheaters special.
