You should check out TNT or Victoria Paintball Adventures. They are two main fields here on the lower island.

poor new comer unable to open a phone book
poor tom unable to cut and paste norms website link correctly in a forum reply

bro warm up that a5 and come shoot us newbs at every field the island has to offer - dig round here for field info sections or go old school and open a phone book if you can find one

a good chunk of us love TNT regularly but mix it up at other fields too

Given the price gouging of pain'balls ($160 per case) that the commercial fields around Victoria have to offer, I'd make Midway Paintball in Duncan my regular field if I lived in Victoria. It seems that the further up Island you go, the cheaper pain'ballin' gets. I play at Point Blank in Comox: $10 field fee (includes all-day air or CO2), paint is $60-$65 per case, or you can BYOP!

Get up to the Port Alberni hump Sun April 11th!!! Big game, no field fees, $36 per case!

Play em all.

I would pay $200+ per case if the field quality and staff service is there to enjoy.

In my opinion a place like TNT or SC Village can charge whatever they want or can get away with because the field designs, layouts and staffing produce a product of enjoyment that goes beyond the price tag of paint.

I don't tend to shoot a case in the bush anyways - maybe a 500 bag if I go nuts.
A 7man or XBall day I can shoot a case or two.

Y not make it a challenge for yourself ... only carry two balls per opponent ... 30 guys a side ... carry 60 paintballs on for a typical 10-15min game. Now the paint price isn't an issue and you will get better at your craft.

arandomguy, you will see a whack of electros with 50rd hoppers out at TNT, honing their skill and having a blast.

I'm heading out to VPA Saturday with just my T8 ... may shoot 100 balls if I go crazy out there.

Rob has it right.

I love that people expect everybody else to work for free.
The 10+ staff on a busy day at TNT. Should they work for free?
Should the over 40 hours a week the owners put in maintaining the fields, repairing/cleaning guns, washing and sewing camo tops/bottoms, fixing masks. Both work for free as well? You think new lenses for masks come free from VForce (they don't work for free either. Should they?) ? Or that Tippmann sends Replacement parts for free out of the goodness of their hearts?
Heck while we're at it. Let get the Yellow Pages, Telephone company, Insurance Company, and Revenue Canada all to work for free too! Then they wouldn't have to charge fields like TNT fees to stay in Business.

Then when you are done playing for the day. You can stop at Tim Horton's on the way home and only pay $1.00 for a sandwich. Because thankfully all the Staff at Tim Horton's work for free too. So you only have to pay $1.00 for ingredients.

The world doesn't work like that.

If it did. You wouldn't need VISA!

i don't like the expensive paint either, but to some degree you get what you pay for. i've played at tnt and vpa and paid more for paint than i thought was fair. but then i added up the forts, the cost of building all that clientelle, the amenities. so for $40 a bag of paint isn't that much. also, remember, that some fields have good success with this formula because it keeps paint volume down and a lot of customers appreciate that.

i have 0 problem with that philosophy. it's not for me, but it has it's place. tnt makes it a deal, actually. when you pay $36 at the hump, you get 0 washrooms, 0 xtra gear in case yours breaks. 1 ref who is sorta only half there, dirt road, no insurance, - again, you get what you pay for. don't begrudge the bigger fields because of their higher costs. they also have higher operating costs. plus with ALL those customers and all those forts - it's a blast!

Sheesh guys, I'm not trying to start a boycott here... all I'm sayin' is you don't need to blow that much money to play... But if pretty looking forts are worth a 250% paint mark-up to you, then have fun with that.

yeah, lets keep the boycott to the entities that deserve it ... wives that won't let you play every week!

WRT field sales model, each has its advantage and I love going to each type of field to enjoy a different type of game. I am happy to pay to keep the refs and owners in business because I certainly don't have the land or money to do it without them. Am I interested in keeping my costs down by the odd outlaw game? Yeah.

At Tom's, Midway & VPA I shoot larger volumes of paint
At TNT I shoot small amounts of paint and enjoy the huge terrain and practice getting shot in the back by renters (read the shirt guys)

When its scenarios ... TPG & Midway I get a combination of both.

I've not had the pleasure of going to Norm's & Rez Dogs fields but plan on it this year.

Variety is the spice.

very true, i always used a pump gun on rec fields, only carried what fit in my 50 rnd hopper, much more fun that way, way better challenge, as rob said, most people who frequent tnt dont mind paying extra, due to the field quality and designs

ha ha. i love it when people say anything about TnT that everyone jumps down said persons throat. All valid points and if the prices for Paint at TnT work for TnT then power to them. Everybody does deserve to make a living after all. I dont like having to conserve my paint when im shooting people personally which is why i have not been to TnT. But hey if it works for TnT then it obviously works. no skin off my arse...i paintball plenty with out paying that much.

well out of 8 fields ive been too, TNT still remains my favorite, a vast majority of the island ballers will probably agree with me.

Remove TNT from anyones post and insert any other field name that sells paint for $160+ a case.
The point is still the same.

And that is why it's great to live in a free society such as ours. Everyone can choose to do their own thing. I would never begrudge anyone that doesn't like to conserve paint the opportunity to play their style of paintball. Those that know me, know I'm an advocate for low volume paintball. But that doesn't mean that I think everyone should be forced to play that style if they don't want to. That's why I am glad there are places out there where people can play that style of paintball if they choose to do so. I'd rather those venues are available than have those players come to TNT and be miserable and complain the whole time they were there.

That's a good thing for paintball in general. Overall, any given populated area, will have more players if there are diverse fields available. If all fields were much the same, whether high volume (low price paintballs) or low volume (high priced paintballs), there would be less people playing paintball. Period. Diversity is a good thing.

Diversity is a good thing. TNT appeals to many lower island ballers. It is where I got my start in paintball and I love it to this day... it is IMO one of the best Rec Ball fields around. They have a different approach in mind... and they attract and keep many new ballers engaged and returning to the game. Picking up the pump or the Ego with a 50 round hopper on it and hitting TNT is still a blast and we always come home smiling. Don't get me wrong I love hitting the speedball field or a the odd outlaw game with hardcore ballers where I rock my marker at 15bps+ semi but TNT is not the field that I do that at. There are new ballers there who simply would not have a great time getting blasted by that much paint... and we ALL want the new ballers to grow, evolve and to keep playing as it is the only way this sport can keep on going. The rec ball environment that the TNT crew have created is professional and well staffed with well developed fields and a pleasant atmosphere. It is a model that appeals to the moms and dads out there. They feel comfortable dropping kids off in such an environment. It is neat, organized, netted, supervised, professional and yet still remains hella FUN. To provide the level of service that TNT has built into their product requires an income stream... which is realized in paint sales. Volume paint sales seems to be achieved at TNT by having a high volume of NEW and RETURNING customers... at other fields high volume or paint sales seems to be a product of lowering paint prices... the issue with this approach is that many folks who are new to the sport run and don't return to the sport after getting blasted (unlike me... when I was balsted... I ran for a better gun... but I am twisted that way... I think maybe I am Texan at heart). Anyway... I love TNT and what they do there. Keep on rocking boyz.

im pretty sure i didnt say you said there is anything wrong with TNT, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, everyone has their own idea of fun, i myself dont find it fun lacing streams of paint at people who have just picked up a paintball marker for their first time, as dave has just covered in his previous post, most people probably wont enjoy their first time balling if someone shows up with a heavy trigger finger and a fast marker, i myself would only ever carried about 40 balls with me onto the field and then draw the limit of shooting about 5 "rental" players before id call myself out, again im not labeling you as someone who shows up to a recreational field and shoots an obscene amount of paint and first time paintballers, im just sayin....

Ha, the guy just gets into Victoria a month ago and only wanted to know where he could shoot off his A5 and the thread goes into a dumb fumble.

Hey 'arandomguy' - did you get out to any fields these past couple of weekends?

Off Topic - Did anyone try to play in that crazy wind storm we had?

I did play during at TNT. It went pretty good, the wind stayed at bay for the most part and the trees provided good cover from it.
