Ubuntu & Wine, Anyone?

I've been testing the linux waters lately, and love the Ubuntu distro. The only downside is, I am having a really hard time getting wine to work with it.

Anyone familiar with the programs mentioned and willing to lend a hand?

Giving someone instructions on a OS and Apps over Instant Messenger or Forum Posts is about as smooth as instructing someone who is driving down the highway blindfolded and never driven standard before.
