OK, I would like to thank everyone who came out and played what was an epic day of paintball. I have never seen a closer game, with the Afghans at 4000 heading into the final battle, and the Soviets with 3950. Unlike the Cuban Crisis, the final battle decided the outcome of the day, with the Soviets getting the warhead back at T minus 12:24 remaining in the final battle.

Some thanks:

- Jake, Jason and his brother Sean, Erin, Katie and everyone else who made the new staging / concession area a reality. Thanks go out big time to Dave Blair for the fantastic food quality, and to *ahem* myself for getting the new stainless steel food prep gear out to the field. Jason earns kudos for being a Craigslist master.

- Robert, Mike and Jimmy from PBL who make the Tippmann Challenges happen. Not many know it, but PBL carries nearly all the costs for the Tippmann Challenges across Canada. Make sure to get to www.tippmannchallenge.com for the game video in the next couple of days. Tons of work but done with a smile by Jimmy and Robert from Backline Media.

- Brent and Scott from Tippmann, making the trek from Indiana to help host the event, and provide some great prizing as well. Thanks to Mike from PBL and Brent from Tippmann for hosting and running the 2 on 2 TPX Challenge at lunchtime - and congrat to team BruceNick, some of the the TonSixers. No surprise these quality players won the 2 on 2!

- Andrew and my boys from Thunder (Andrew, Carl, Harley, Kyle and co) who came all the way from Chilliwack to ref the event, coupled with my field staff (Ian, Kris, Kevin, Manni, Manvir, Raj, Derek, Terry, Jayson), Dana from the Marauders who graciously volunteered his time, Brandon from Deadbox, Jesse from the CXBL, Mickey from la Cosa Nostra, Rickfactor, Justin T and Ryan from PBL, and anyone else who I might have inadvertently missed, my sincere thanks.

- Jake, Bruce, et al from Wardogz, and Ted, Dave and Zack et al from Marauders (plus Robby P!!) for running the tanks all day long. Not as much fun as it sounds, it is a lot of work. Kudos gentlemen, and I will be looking for submissions for standardized tank rules to implement over the winter for future games. You know how to reach me.

- Josh, Stormin Norman and his Untouchables (can't wait to see the new field!), Dave C, Jurgen, Lee, Alex D, Cody, and any and all other Islanders (Militia, War Party, Hellfire, and otherwise) who made the trek on the holiday weekend on BC Ferries. Your dedication to battle is commendable. We missed the tomn8r this time around, but not due to lack of trying. Damn fires on ferries on holiday weekends!

- Nic and Corine from Ambush for offering up their backup compressor - and getting it serviced to boot! You guys are the best.

- All our event sponsors of course, starting and most importantly, PBL Action Sports, without whom these games wouldn't happen. PBL provides staff, logistics, and prizing for all 3 Challenges Canadawide, and spares no expense in putting on a great game. Free event tshirts to pre registers, for instance, is something I don't believe any other league or series offers and I have played all over North America. Tippmann of course ranks right alongside, sending a tech and top level salesperson all the way from Indiana, who brought with them not only a bunch of great prizes (5 guns for the raffle for instance!) but also the prizes for the 2 on 2 (2 brand new TPX pistols) and free parts for all Tippmann markers. Just another great company bringing their A game to Canada alongside PBL. Vforce, Warsensor, Eye Tactical all provide great prizing as well, and I would be remiss if I didn't thank TPG itseld and PBL West for putting in tons of time and providing kickass prizing alongside Tippmann. PBL and all the family (PBL West, PBL Approved Winnipeg, PBL New York) all put in tons of time and effort promoting and coordinating these games Canadawide.

- Finally, and not least of course, all the various groups and organizations that make the great game what it is: Kris Jim and the staff and players from the CSPO - it is a pleasure to deal with such great people; Shane and Kyle from PBGear, Chris, Jethro, Colton, Jimmy and the boys from Panther (always great to see Prime play, and show off the skill and experience that make him a legend in BC Paintball), Geoff, Dan and the boys from Wolverines, and again anyone else I may have missed here. My brain is slowly returning to normal from the weekend, so I may edit this in case I missed anyone

To everyone who played hard and fair, congrats to the winners - enjoy the taste of a well fought win. To the conquered, take heart in the fact that this game was damn close all day - and only the final battle decided the victors - for now.

See you all at Red Dawn III in January!

Matt / TPG

I'd also like to extend my thanks to all those involved, and those playing, for making another great event happen. Everywhere I was, the refs were (from what I saw) paying attention and keeping things 'clean'. I might make it out to RDIII, depending on finances.

Thank YOU matt. you put on an awesome event as usual.

i must say that was the hardest battle i had to fight throughout the whole series. Blue side brought it HARD!! I had to let my adrenaline take over for the last game. I was running, diving and crawling at speeds i didnt know i could go anymore and i even lived the whole last game! my body hates me now though, haw haw. im so old.

it was just plain an awesome event and you can bet i will try my hardest to be at Red Dawn III.

TEAM HELLFIRE thanks you.

itz impossible to thank matt enuff for his efforts in growing the sport of paintball. his list of accomplishments in b.c. far outstrip any of his competitors; from retail to wholesale to tournaments to big games right to his own personal skill and knowledge of the game.

it is no mystery why 400+ enthusists descend upon tswassen every season for these awesome times. and it is no mystery why most fields and players support him. missed this 1 but have made many and will make many more (including 'disruption' 5-player speedball this coming sunday)

thanx again to our primary sponsor matt and PBL west

Hahah, I think that was my first assault on the Chopper in the second half of the day. Got up near the chopper and realized I had a nice side angle on multiple blues along the ridge and started whipping some longball / suppression at em. When they tucked in I went to rush the chopper and got ripped up by the blues in the underbrush along the right tapeline. If I'd known it was Ace's boys up there I'd have kept it up instead.

Nicely put together and "fast moving" video. I was hoping to see some of the action filmed of the Ruskies defending the inside of the helicoptor but i guess it didn't make the cut.

At least now i can give my kids some idea of the mayhem at one of these events.

I'll be back again for sure!

I wish I could thank those guys for the video... but to be honest I'm getting sick of seeing almost exclusively footage of blue armbands on field in videos and photos... you'd think there was only one team at these games. Of the actual on field footage about 6 seconds were definately shot from the Red side, another 3 or 4 were uncertain, the REST of the onfield footage was very definately shot from the Blue side.

Although I've got to say, the editing did do a good job of making it look frenetic and action packed... but it doesn't look like they got much actual "action" (hence the need for cutting it to give the impression of intensity)...

I did recognize Maximus in one of the crowd flashes though, and of course our resident MTac winner which is more than I can say for any other islander in any previous game video I can recall (other than the Red Dawn one that WE shot). Oh, and if you're really quick with the pause button you can see a few of us for a fraction of a second in a crowd shot at the opening speech standing across from Matt, and Daryl in the background on another crowd sweep but you've got to be pretty damned quick on the pause or you'll miss it...

You'd swear from the video and photographic coverage that Blue must REALLY suck because they always seem to loose to a team that apparently doesn't exist outside of the staging area... Maybe Islanders are like aliens or sasquatch when we hit the field... you hear of sightings and there are lots of people that would swear they've seen a real one, but damned if there's a working camera to be found when one is around *laugh* <swear filter>, last years coverage of the TC game did an entire feature from Red side and managed to COMPLETELY omit / edit out any recognizeable Islanders in pretty much every shot. There were a bunch of shots where we know Islanders were *just* out of frame by INCHES, but magically no F'ing islanders caught on film (or acknowledged by Ken Lee when sounding off about who was playing on his side).

I'm contemplating hanging up my marker for scenarios next season because I'm getting tired of us being the invisible winning team...

Wow. I was going to let you all know that this is just the highlight video, and that secret missions for both sides plus tank footage sides are coming, but perhaps people are fed up with free movies from the game? I am always open to camera people filming as long as they contact me first - maybe someone can show Backline what real game footage is like? I will be sure to pass along constructive comments!

LOL.

When I first began to play Sceanrios I thought it was cool to see myself in the videos and pictures... Now however, I have come to the conclusion that if you are in a video or if you are having your picture taken YOU ARE NOT PLAYING HARD ENOUGH. It is simple Lee. Island players are not in the videos because we are at friking cutting-leading edge of the game play ALL DAY LONG. The photographers and videographers simply cannot keep up. So... if you want your pic taken... hang out.. .play the medium or long ball game. You get your picture taken that way. If you want to play PAINTBALL... move forward and don't stop moving until you are out of air.

Hey, I'm not going to dispute that the guys at Backline are WAY better photographers than I am, in fact I know very little about takin purty pictures... but I've NEVER seen footage of a frontline chunk of game from ANY other local game when it wasn't being shot with MY camera or from someones gun/helmet cam. Backlines vid is beautifully shot and very well edited but it doesn't, to me at least, capture the game... only the environment of the game. And it's true, I challenge you to find a single snip from that "highlights" vid that is anywhere near the actual engagement... it's possible that I'm wrong, but every shot of on field footage appears to be shot from solidly behind the back ranks of people long balling and just entering into the engagement zone. From what I hear they've done a great job with the SpeedBall footage they've been putting up, but that's a completely different medium to work in.

Here's hoping they can prove me wrong when they release the other videos... if they don't though it's just gonna be fuel on the fire of my annoyance.

Yeah, I totally understand that dynamic... doesn't mean that it I still don't get annoyed by it. And to date I haven't been annoyed enough to put down my marker and pick up the camera during a game (it'd be like cutting my own hand off.. or at least deliberately hitting it really hard with a hammer). If these rumored additional vids don't dispell this though Island United may be down a gun and up a Cameraman at the next game so I can film the Islanders and the people crazy enough to play against them at the front.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that though because there isn't much I like better than cutting loose at a Scenario.

hey matt-no worries man, free vids are good. You are doing an excellent job and rock at what you do. like SP said its about playing the game not being filmed, but ya gotta understand that we didnt know this was just a teaser. We been waiting weeks to see the footage and when we finally get to see it.....its almost exclusivly blue team. Im sure you can understand how that would be a let down from a RED players point of view. Mind you the quality of the footage is great and appreciated. just trying to let you know where some of the annoyance is coming from.

Island United!! (The invisible scenario force)

I wasn't aware that this extra snippet (movies) that the Tippmann Challenge pays for was anything but an attempt to show the overall environment of the game. We at Frontline are happy to offer free tech work including parts, free Shuttle from the ferry, and free rentals along with air fills with our ticket price for all our events, but I don't recall advertising that I would have equal amounts of free video footage shot, edited, and then posted within a specified time frame of the event. I always allow players and videographers onto the field (wearing proper identifying gear), and in most cases would have not have any clue who they are until they show up. I would have no way and no reason to tell him or her how to distinguish an Islander, or to ensure they don't get onto the video.
