Just throwing it out there to see if any Islanders are interested in mid Island or North Island?

Looks and sounds pretty sweet. I'm pretty sure that some if not all the Island Militia will be interested, although we are mostly on the south island, but were willing to travel.

Good to se alot of interest from the Island, we are looking at holding at least one event of the four on the Island. I'll have more info in the next few weeks regarding Tems, entries, more sponsors as they come on board etc. Just working out the rulebook right now, incorporating old school NAPRA rules with current is kinda fun and interesting.

I haven't heard back from a couple of Old schoolers on the Island i thjought I might hear from ( Tom ,Branadon?)
but oh well
Norm is a definate from Victoria, and as I haven't really dropped or finished up all the paperwork ( I know i jumped the gun before the "t's" where crossed, but damn I'm even excited about the concept)hopefully before the new year i will have everything in place.

Chris, don't forget to send me some promotional stuff to post up at the field. PM, email, or call me if you need a mailing address (if it's not something I can print myself).

.....always interested to see what new 'outside the box' ideas u have chris! we're quite busy ourselves with an island series, the bcppl and some of matts scenario games. if there is an island contingent going 2 panther, u can bet i'll do my best to rustle up some of the old boys who just love that shiz!

maybe, just maybe, this time i won't get lost and be wandering all over rural langley as i have done a coupla times b4 on that great big massive spread o land u have there ha ha.

You talking about getting TO the field or finding your way around ON the field *laugh*

I got turned around a couple times out in the back 40 at Panthers, beautiful place to get lost in though!

Ahhh Tom, the only guy I know in a tournament when we say the "creek" is a boundary.......has to try to stretch the boundary.

Anyway event dates and locations are posted and we now have DXS and TPG on board as sponsors. Gonna be strange to hold a Panther staple "Summer Heat" at TPG.....but thats the spirit of co-operation.

............ something that always baffled me, - what creek? i was stealthing along the border tape, which musta had a break in it, or something, but my wide flank got really really wide. i kept going and going and going, into a swamp, which was pretty disheartening. i was gone for about an hour, giving up on being stealthy i just walked forever trying to find some sort of clue as to my whereabouts. finally, i heard some noise off in the distance.

sure enough, as if the missing in action wasn't crazy in itself, i wandered onto the field, during a game, in which my team was playing! yeah, that's right, missed the first game cuz i was lost, and somehow, an hour+ later, i find the field and get right back into the action!

1 of my many many 'fond' memories of panther.

Well Spring Fever ( Event 1) happened last weekend and the overall feeling was WE WANT MORE, the first event featured 6 x7 man teams playing old fashioned Capture the Flag woodsball.
The first place team was rocking pumps, BT's and Ego's, had Apprentices, Rookies, Nov's, an Am and 1 Pro, a very different combination, AND they shot an average of 142 paintballs per person per game.......over 12 games.
Teams who lost would walk off the field saying "wow that was fun, so internse and way more fun than Speedball" ( and these where speedball players.)
The general consensus was Old School Woodsball still is THE way to play paintball, sure there are Mil Sims, and Speedball, and some Scenario themed games, but when it goes back to it's roots, it can't be beat.

Over 4 Grand in Sponosred prizes where handed out, as well as a commemorative T-Shirt to each player, AND trophies and medals for top 3 teams.

Pics will be up this week on the website www.bcwppl.com so those that missed it will see what they missed, a big Thanks to Hitsquad, Rage, Untouchables, Predaotrs, Claw, and Team Voodoo for supporting an event that has no option but to grow ( when the refs are saying "get new refs for the next event because we are playing, this is too fun" ) you know something special is happening. And a big thank you to Kee < Sniperz Paintball , Storman Norm's and of course the Panther crew who put out a lot of time and effort to help make an idea I had come true.

Islanders!!! Event 2 Rumble on the Rock is June 7 in Victoria, those that missed Event 1 don't make the same mistake again, you WILL regret it.

Just wish I could play instead of running the damn thing!

sounds like it was a blast, beers, old schoolers, bushball..............

i've always liked the idea of having bushball tournies - it's kinda like speedball and x-ball has blinded us as to just how much fun these things can be. i do have a concern regarding the name 'rumble on the rock' however, as this was a name created out of a contest for the provincial speedball tournaments held on the island, of which we have recently had 2. perhaps these iconic names, such as rumble on the rock, the west coast classic, march of the rookies, brawl for it all, etc., can be kept with where they have originated. i would hope that team names, such as the untouchables, storm, w.c.a., etc etc etc would be considered 'un-usable' as well just out of consideration.

other than that, good luck with this concept and i'll try to call the bcwppl regarding entering a team for 1 of these bad boys!

I talked to the BCPPL regarding the name before using it,and it came with their blessing since they are concentrating on lower mainland venues. And since I'm hoping this style of play will once again find a place in our hearts and wallets, it will be used for many a year this way.

I asked the last person to use it, not a big thing, since all the promo is done for this year, next year we will change it, .

"Rumble on the Rock" has roots in MMA and Hawaii. When I was there back in '03 I remember seeing a poster for a UFC event with the name. It is a great name.

i was anticipating that angle dave lol.

storm is the name of an x-men woman - but in paintball it was used for a panther team (so it's off limits imo)
reflex is a clothing line - but in paintball it was used for the b.c. all-star team (so it's off limits imo)
the komound is a term for a prisoner of war camp - but in paintball it belongs to pw for a speedball course (so it's off limits imo)
rumble on the rock is a mma term used in hawaii - but in paintball it is used for island speedball events (so it's off limits imo)

stormin norman? general norman swarzkopf in desert storm
west coast classic? golf
the untouchables? a movie

so use what ever u want. go nuts. it's all good fun!

Rumble on the Rock was also used as a phrase for Occupational Wars in Victoria back in 95/96 - Amature Boxing Matches.
It's also been used for a few other Island competitions for MX, BMX, Trials, Tri-Athalon, Rugby, Beer League Softball, A WarHammer Tourny, Hill Climbs, Drag Racing, 3 Man Soccer event in 99, Karate Tournament in 2002, Skim Boarding event at China Beach in 1990, even a freaking kids PokeMon event/gathering at Cedar Hill Rec Center in 98.

Nothing original about this over recycled simple phrase at all in my opinion.

Verb on the Noun

I still like it... I think it "says" Island (be that Island VanIsle or Hawaii).

I think if you talk to anyone who played or reffed the first event you will find an overwhelming appreciation for the game that is now considered"old School" but is the type of Paintball we almost all started playing either in tournmaments or as walk on renters.

The teams that played Spring Fever ( can we not argue over this names meaning) <swear filter> Halloween Havok was a WCW wrestling event, as will be the final event Judgement Day,( okay also a termininator name) so nothing is really original, and people like familiar things, it's a comfort zone......enough of that ????? the eventual "down the road" of the BCWPPL is to have events that all levels and "budget" players can play, it's fairly inexpensive, it's fun, and it captures the true spirit of Paintball.
The hope is that with the 4 events this year between fields on the island and mainland, that other fields and sponsors will become involved for next year, personally i would love to see a series that has monthly events between the Island then the mainland then the interior, then back to the Island etc, with maybe Island teams reffing mainland events, mainland teams reffin Island or interior events etc.
basically 3 divisions with 3-4 events in each location and the top 4 scores for your team counting toward a season finally, where the top 3 teams from each area would get free entry to a BC final where the Best woodsball Team in BC would be crowned.

Far fetched?.......maybe, but 20 years ago a person who funded Panther's first stock purchase told me " you'll make beer money from paintball but not much more",.....................................
